Rewinding Town: Kanda Version
Jun. 24th, 2010 02:49 pmChapter: Rewinding Arc
Premise: What if Kanda went with Allen instead of Lenalee?
Rewinding Town (Kanda Version)
[Before the town's main gates]
Merchant: Ten bottles of rose wine by the 29th... Ten bottles of rose wine by the 29th... Just what is going on here?
Allen: Oh! It looks like there's someone here. Let's see what he has to say.
Merchant: Do you have business with this town, too?
Allen: Yes. Have you noticed anything strange about this village?
Merchant: Yes. Yes! I'm a merchant from the neighboring town, and on October 28th I received an order from this town's pub asking for ten bottles of rose wine. The next day, I came here with the goods, but for some reason I couldn't enter the town so I went home. And then, I got another order for ten bottles of rose wine to be delivered by the 29th. And again and again. I've gotten the same order everyday since then.
Allen: Everyday?
Merchant: Yes. Here's yesterday's request. I'll get another one today, so I guess there's no harm in giving you this one.
Kanda: I see. So it seems the part about not being able to enter the town is true.
Allen: I wonder if Exorcists can go inside. Only one way to find out.
Kanda: We don't have much of a choice.
[Operation 'Enter Town' successful]
Allen: Looks like we made it. It's just like Komui said it would be.
Kanda: Which means that Innocence is behind all this.
Allen: We should split up and check things out. That merchant said this pub had a town. We can meet up there later to share our findings.
[Kanda attempts to leave Rewinding Town]
Kanda: I guess I should see if we can leave this town. … Tch. Even if I try to leave, I just end up back here. So we can't leave until we figure out what's causing this mess. What a pain in the ass.
[And so Kanda gets stuck talking to people in town]
Man: What is it? I'm on the way to Petell's Theater to see the grand opening of “The Pumpkin and the Witch.” It's the building right in front of the fountain. The show is starting soon, so if you'll excuse me.
Man: What? Have I noticed anything strange about the town lately? No. I don't know anything about that. But there is a new play starting up in Petell's Theater. A horror piece. You should go see it.
Girl: What day is it? It's October 28th. What? What do you mean yesterday was also October 28th. Yesterday was the 27th, of course. Is something wrong with you?
Man: Have I noticed anything strange about the town recently? … Well, there was this woman walking around telling everyone that the “town was rewinding” or something like that. But no one paid attention to her.
[And Allen goes to check out the Pub]
Owner: Welcome. Oh, I haven't seen you around these parts before. Take a seat anywhere you like.
Allen: Excuse me.
Owner: What would you like?
Allen: Were you about to make an order for more wine?
Owner: Why yes, we just ran out. I was just about to place an order to the next town.
Allen: Ten bottles of rose wine by the 29th, right?
Owner: And how do you know that, you creepy kid?
Allen: No, no, it's nothing like that. I just had a feeling, that's all. Thank you very much.
[Kanda comes back to the pub so they can share notes]
Allen: So what did you find out?
Kanda: The town is stuck in October 28th. All of the townspeople honestly believe it's that day. And it's impossible to leave this place. It's just like Komui suspected.
Allen: I figured...
Kanda: We can't go back until we figure this out.
Allen: But where could the Innocence be?
Kanda: I'm going to bed. We'll start again in the morning.
Allen: Right. Maybe we'll find a clue tomorrow.
[Sleep at an inn music goes here]
Allen: And the 28th starts all over again.
Kanda: Is that today's newspaper? … Yes, it's still the 28th.
Miranda: Who are those people in black? Then weren't in today until yesterday.
Allen: Hm? I feel like someone is watching us.
[Sometime during the search, Allen uses Timcampy]
Allen: Have you found anything out yet?
Kanda: Nothing of importance.
Allen: I see.
[Residential Area]
Kid: Oh! There comes the unlucky woman. Take this! Snake bomb!!
Miranda: *dodge*
Kid: What?! She dodged it!
Miranda: Hmph! You've thrown it at me thirty times now. Of course I dodged it.
Kid: Huh? Today was the first day I threw it at you. Miranda~ Miranda~ Unlucky Miranda~ Ugly, dark, and lame~ Looking for another job today? You'll just get fired~ AAAH! Unlucky is coming! RUN!
Miranda: Come back here, you brats!
Allen: What? That woman... she said something strange just now.
[Sleep at an inn music goes here]
[Residential Area]
Kid: Huh? Is Miranda not coming today? And I just found a really good snake.
Allen: What? She didn't follow the same path as yesterday. Could it be...?
[Back Alley]
Miranda: Why?
Akuma: *growls*
Miranda: Why? Am I going to be killed? But... I'm supposed to get splashed with mud from a carriage and then go back to my apartment and sleep. What is this monster?
Akuma: Where is the Innocence?
Miranda: Is today not today?
Kanda: Leave her alone!
Akuma: Don't get in my way!!!
[Kanda thrashes the Akuma]
Kanda: Where did that woman go? I know that Akuma said “Innocence.”
[Incoming Timcampy conversation]
Allen: Kanda, did you find anything?
Kanda: Yeah, I ran into an Akuma.
Allen: WHAT!?
Kanda: I'll tell you about it later.
[Back at the pub]
Allen: So that's what happened.
Kanda: I heard the Akuma talking about Innocence.
Allen: It's best if we think of her as the key to all of this.
Kanda: Right. She probably knows something about the Innocence.
Allen: Which means we need to find her.
Kanda: Leave it to me.
Allen: … I feel like someone is watching us again.
[Miranda peeks out her head]
Kanda: Moyashi, it's her!
Miranda: AAAAAAAAH!
Kanda: Why the hell are you running?
Miranda: Sorry, it's a conditioned reflex. … You're Exorcists?
Allen: Yes, and we just want to talk.
Miranda: I-I'm Miranda Lotto, and I'm so relieved to hear that you've noticed this town is strange. Everyone I talked to treated me like I was crazy. It was so painful I thought I wanted to die. But at least I managed to dodge that snake. Hahahahaha....
Allen: Maybe she is crazy...
Kanda: Miranda, when did you notice that something strange was going on in town?
Miranda: It was that first day when people seemed to forget that the 28th had already happened. Only I remembered. … Help us. You have to help us! I really will go crazy if this keeps up. You're Exorcists, right? And you saved me before. If you're going to save something, save it all the way!
Allen: That's kind of scary.
Kanda: Shut up! You're the reason the town is like this!
Miranda: Me? By the time I realized what was going on, it was already the 28th all over again.
Kanda: Then what did you do on the real 28th?
Allen: This feeling... Kanda, take Miranda out of here right away. Back to where she lives for now.
Kanda: What!?
Allen: The Akuma have also realized that Miranda isn't affected like the rest of the townspeople. And the most likely reason for that is somehow, somewhere Miranda came in contact with the Innocence.
Miranda: Huh?
Pang: Pang Voice!
Wind Cutter: Wind Cutter.
Ice: Ice fire hotter than fire!
Miranda: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Kanda: We're getting out of here. If you don't want to die, hold on.
[Somewhere else]
Road: Hmmm? This is Rewinding Town? Hope you don't mind, but Road Kamelot has just arrived.
[Back at the pub]
Allen: Three Level 2 Akuma is a little...
Ice: Ice Fire hotter than fire. If it touches you even for a little bit, it will scorch your skin.
Wind Cutter: No, no. Slice him up! Slice him up!
Pang: It'd be more fun to destroy his brain with my voice!
Road: Wait.
Allen: They stopped.
Road: It looks like you're having fun~ Have you forgotten all about retrieving the Innocence? Get back here!!
Allen: What? Why are they retreating?
[Using Timcampy]
Allen: Kanda, where are you now?
Kanda: Moyashi, you all right?
Allen: Yeah, somehow.
Kanda: We're at Miranda's apartment right now. It's a little ways away from the back alley.
Allen: Understood. I'll be there shortly.
[Back Alley]
Allen: Excuse me. Do you know where Miranda lives?
Women: Oh, that worthless woman? I know. Her building is just down this street.
Allen: Thank you.
[Miranda's Apartment]
Allen: Thank goodness you're all right.
Kanda: Hn. You got your ass kicked.
Allen: Hmph.
Kanda: You're still worthless. Can't even handle level 2s on your own.
Allen: Speaking of that, those Akuma acted very strangely. They were all ready to kill me, but then they suddenly pulled back.
Kanda: Ah, so that's how you survived.
Allen: What's Miranda doing?
Kanda: Ever since I explained to her about Akuma, she hasn't moved from that clock.
Allen: Is that clock important to her?
Miranda: There are some people who can't do anything no matter how hard they try. I'm one of those people. I've never had some one thank me in my whole life. That means I've never been useful to anyone. And then, I met this clock. The gears wouldn't work so even the second hand shop wanted to toss it out. When I looked at it, I saw a little of myself, so I tried to get it work. And it moved. This old clock that wouldn't work for anyone else. The sound of its chiming warmed my heart. It's like it was acknowledging my existence.
Allen: Miranda.
Miranda: …
Allen: Huh?
Miranda: Why are those scary things after me? I don't know anything! This town went crazy on its own! Why are you asking me what I did?! I hate this. I hate this!
Allen: M-Miranda.
Miranda: You're the strong ones here. Hurry up and save this town!
Allen: And we will, but we need your help to do that. This phenomenon is somehow related to you. Please help us. We'll return to tomorrow together.
Miranda: !!
Allen: M-Miranda. Why are you standing-- where are you going?
Kanda: To her bed.
Miranda: …
Allen: You're going to sleep!?
Kanda: Something's not right... Look!
Allen: W-what!? It can't be... that clock... that clock is moving backwards. Is it pulling in time? It's getting light outside. It's morning?!
Miranda: Huh? When did I...?
Allen: This... is amazing! This clock... neither of us can touch it. Only Miranda can. This must be the Innocence that is turning back the time. This clock is behind everything.
Miranda: You aren't... you wouldn't... destroy my friend?
Allen: Miranda, calm down.
Kanda: You really don't get it, do you? There has to be a reason why the clock became this way. Now go back and think about what you did on the real October 28th.
Miranda: That day... I was fired from my 100th job. Naturally, since the number of times I'd been fired had reached triple digits, I was feeling a little down. I remember saying “I wish tomorrow would never come.”
Kanda: ?
Miranda: Eh?
Kanda: That's it. Saying “I wish tomorrow would never come” started all this.
Allen: The clock was trying to grant Miranda's wish!
Miranda: But I was just ranting. How can a clock even do that?
Kanda: Impossible. Could she be this Innocence's compatible user?
Miranda: And what is that?
Kanda: Oi, tell this clock to knock it off.
Miranda: Oh clock, oh clock. Please return time to normal.
Kanda: …
Allen: …
Miranda: …
Allen: It didn't work.
Kanda: Nothing has changed.
Miranda: Why can't I do anything right?
Kanda: Maybe we need to rethink our strategy.
Allen: The Innocence is reacting to Miranda's feelings of despair.
Kanda: Hn. I can believe that.
Allen: So if we just get her to think more positively, maybe we can fix all of this.
Kanda: And how are we supposed to do that?
Allen: A job! If we help her find a job, then she'll have more hope for the future.
Kanda: Tch. I don't like it, but we really don't have much of us a choice. Fine, let's start looking for a job for her.
Allen: Right. Let's do this, Miranda.
Miranda: O-okay. I'm not very confident, but I'll give it my best shot.
Allen: Okay, so from now we'll start looking for a job for Miranda. Since there are three of us, if we split up...
Kanda: Moyashi, I can handle this myself. Once I find a job for her, I'll call for you.
Miranda: That wouldn't be fair. It's for my sake...
Kanda: I'll be fine on my own. To be honest, it'll be easier without you around. Miranda, you've been fired 100 times. If they see you, it'll make my job all that much more difficult.
Miranda: … You're absolutely right. I can't even defend myself against that.
Allen: What's the real reason? You never do things for other people.
Kanda: Is this a time to be arguing with me? The Akuma are after Miranda. So you protect her! I want no part in that.
Allen: … Right. Good luck with your search.
[Residential Area]
Worker: Oh, this is not good...
Kanda: What isn't?
Worker: We're selling tickets for the new play opening at the Petell Theater, but we don't have enough people to do it, so they're not selling as well as we'd hope. The boss is going to get upset.
Kanda: Perfect. I know someone that is looking for a job.
Worker: Really? We're so desperate we'll take anyone. Could you bring the person to see the boss?
Boss: Wahahaha, are you the ones looking for work?
Allen: Pleased to meet you.
Boss: It's a bit of a rush job, but we have a lot of tickets leftover for today's performance. We need to gather a lot of people together so we can sell them.
Allen: Very well, I'll do a little street performance. I used to do some when I was a kid.
Boss: Sounds good to me.
Allen: Thank you very much.
Boss: I'm counting on you. Wahahahaha.
Allen: Welcome, welcome~ We're selling tickets to Petell's Theater's show “The Pumpkin and The Witch.”
Miranda: Would you like to purchase one?
Kid: Can I have one?
Miranda: One ticket is 20 gini. Thank you very much.
Allen: We're selling quite a few of them.
Miranda: Y-yes. I'm guess I'm well suited for the horror genre...
Boss: Wahahahaha. Good job, good job. The two of you should take a break. You're doing fine. Keep this up, and I'll take you as full time employees.
Allen: Really?
Boss: Next is Center Square. Go sell those tickets, and keep up the good work.
Allen: Did you hear that, Miranda?
Miranda: I'm actually being useful... I can't believe it. Thank you, Allen. Let's head to Center Square.
[Center Square]
Allen: Welcome, welcome~ We're selling tickets to Petell's Theater's show “The Pumpkin and The Witch.”
Miranda: Would you like to purchase one?
Man: That looks interesting. I'll take two.
Allen: We're doing well over here too, Miranda.
Miranda: Yes, I'm feeling a little more optimistic. Maybe, I'll be able to stop the clock soon...
Allen: All you need is a little confidence. Then I'm sure it will work. But first we need to finish this. Let's work to sell all the tickets. Maybe we'll even get a bonus!
Miranda: Yes... I'll do my best!
Road: Hey, you in the black~ Where can I buy a ticket for “The Pumpkin and the Witch?”
Allen: Welcome! You can purchase the tickets right here.
Road: …
Allen: Miranda, sell this young lady a ticket. I'm going to go back to the manager and pick up the rest of the tickets.
[Kanda is hanging out at the theater]
Boss: Oh! You're the one who brought in my new workers. They're very good at what they do. Oh, and that reminds me... while performing in another town, I met a very strange traveler wearing a mask. He told me to give this to any person who was wearing a similar uniform. It's a strange piece of paper. Anyway, I just noticed that your uniform was very similar to his. So take this.
Boss: Wahahahaha! You're doing great! Have you sold them all already? We don't have very many left.
Allen: I'll take them. We're trying to sell them all.
Boss: Wahahaha! Perfect! Perfect!
Kanda: Moyashi, Miranda fucked up!
Allen: Kanda! What happened?
Kanda: A thief came and stole all the money! He was wearing a green jacket and heading toward the residential area. Go get him!
Allen: Got it!
Boss: Hey, aren't you the guy who brought in these workers? Please! Help get the money back. If you do, I'll give you this!
[Kanda gains a skill]
Kanda; Leave it to me.
[Center Square]
Boss: What is this I hear!? The money was stolen!?
Miranda: I-I'm sorry...
Boss: You idiot!!
Allen: Miranda!!
Miranda: Allen! I'm so sorry. While I was selling a ticket to another customer...
Allen: Don't worry. I'll catch him.
Miranda: *sob* Allen...
Boss: You worthless...
Allen: It'll be fine. Just wait here.
[Residential Area]
Thief: !?
Kanda: Stop!
Thief: Who would stop when you order them to?!
Kanda: Tch. He got away. He's faster than I expected. It'll be hard to catch him by myself.
Allen: I promised Miranda that I would get the money back. I'm not letting you get away.
Thief: !?
Allen: Stop!
Kanda: You won't get away.
Thief: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Allen: !? Oh crap. This is a trap!
[Somewhere else]
Miranda: I knew it. Everything I try I fail at. But I keep trying... like an idiot. I hate this. Why is it always like this? Why is my clock Innocence? Why!?
Road: Oh? Did you say your clock was Innocence?
[Back to Allen and Kanda]
Pang: We got that woman. That woman you were protecting. Road got her.
Allen: … Road? Leave this to me. Kanda, go after Miranda.
Kanda: Understood.
Pang: Here we go, Exorcist!
Ice: Let's see how we'll you last in minus 100 degrees.
Wind Cutter: Diediediediediediedie!
Kanda: Tch. That's a lot of Akuma. Will you able to handle this, Moyashi...?
Allen: Miranda's in bigger trouble. You need to go to her now!
Kanda: Right. Leave Miranda to me.
Pang: Pang Voice!
Allen: AAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Kanda: Moyashi!
[And everything goes black]
Allen: Owwww... what happened? Is Miranda okay?
[Miranda's apartment]
Allen: The clock is gone. But where...?
[Written on the wall: I've got your Innocence!]
Allen: It was taken. But... the Innocence's effect is still active. Miranda and the clock have to be around somewhere. …? There's something strange about this wall. Could it be...? Is this the Innocence …?
[Inserts Miranda's key into the wall. Picked up at Center Square]
Allen: There's a door in the wall!
[Road's world]
Miranda: Allen?
Kanda: Moyashi! What the hell did you come here for?
Allen: What did I...? To help, of course!
Kanda: You're as soft as ever. I told you I don't care what happens to the people I go on missions with.
Allen; I know that! I was coming to save Miranda!
Road: Oh, there you are.
Allen: You're the little girl who bought the ticket. Why are you with the Akuma? You don't have an Akuma's soul. You're not an Akuma. What are you?
Road: I'm Road Kamelot. A human.
Kanda: Moyashi, I don't give a damn if she's an Akuma or not. Get rid of her!
Road: What's with that face? Can't humans and Akuma be friends?
Allen: Akuma are tools made by the Earl to kill humans. They hunt humans!
Road: And humans make weapons to kill other humans. The Earl is our brother. We are the chosen ones. You don't know anything, Exorcist. You are the chosen of a false god. We are the chosen ones of the true god. The Clan of Noah.
Relo: Road-tama! Shhhhhh! Don't tell people things like that, relo.
Road: Why~
Relo: Because, Relo! There's nothing in the Earl's plan about you meeting the Exorcists yet. You just took me. If you do anything else rash, you'll mess up the Earl's plans, Relo!
Road: I just wanted to make the story more interesting. Just this won't be enough to change the Earl's plans.
Allen: But... you're human like us...
Road: “Like you?” You're mistaken. We're more than human, inheritors of the genes of Noah, the first of mankind. We're different from trash like you. We don't think anything of killing people like you. Our god wishes for this world to end. That is why he gifts us and the Earl with Akuma.
Allen: That's not a god. That's a true demon.
[FIGHT]
Road: Oh, I'll make you all a promise~ I promise to release you once you're dead.
Miranda: AHHHH! Someone... save me!
Road: I'll let you go now.
Allen: Look out! AAAAAAAAAH!
Miranda: Don't... don't die, Allen.
Allen: I'm fine.
Road: Oh, and what is the lowly human doing~
Miranda: Even when I try, I... but... but... but... Huh? What is this? I feel something... My clock... Innocence?
Allen: ?
Miranda: Allen, can you move?
Allen: Miranda... You are the compatible user...
Kanda: What is this...?
Allen: We're being saved by Miranda's Innocence.
Miranda: What? I...? Me...?
Allen: Yes, your Innocence you activated is taking away our injuries by reversing time. Thank you, Miranda.
Miranda: …
Road: Exorcists are so interesting~
Allen/Kanda: Let's finish this, Road.
[The most tedious boss fight ever]
Road: Oh, they broke. But that's enough for now. It was more fun than I thought it would be. See you, Allen Walker.
Allen: Wait!
Road: Hate me. Shoot me with that arm. It's a weapon, too.
Allen: …
Road: You can't shoot... You really are too nice, Allen.
Allen: …
Road: Let's play again someday, Allen... Next time according to the Earl's plan.
Allen: Damn it.
[Back in town]
Allen: …
Komui: This is such a mess. Lavi, could you make sure no one comes in.
Lavi: Roger.
Allen: Komui, why are you here?
Komui: Oh, you're awake? A Finder waiting outside of town reported that it had returned to normal. Congratulations on a successful mission.
Allen: The town's back to normal? Thank goodness... But that doesn't explain why you're here.
Komui: To fix your Innocence, of course!
Allen: .. Are you serious?! … How's Kanda?
Lavi: He's fine. Gramps is treating him now.
Komui: I'll also brought you your next partner.
Lavi: Nice to meet you. I'm Lavi.
Allen: Nice to meet you.
Allen: Because you were there, we are able to be here right now. As long as we're alive, wounds will heal. Even if they leave marks.
